about

Quid pro quo. In mid-2020 Brad Wallace of No Commercial Potential adressed me with a demo track for his upcoming triple album set "Resist". It was a rudimentary demo of "From my cold dead hands" with music only and no lyrics. I have been given unprecidented insight into the NCP production, hearing hours of outtakes and demos, but this one stood out to me.
I asked Brad about it and he explained the premise of the NRA callsign resonating and embedded his own philosophies on gun control and gun violence. I listened and soon found ideas embedded in the song.
Again I asked if I could record my own lyrics for him. He agreed and I recorded the version presented here.
Apart from the lyrics I added a lengthy radio-filtered recital of mass-shooting incidents which I located on Wikipedia. That recording survived the relentless NCP scrutiny when "From my cold dead hands" eventually was released on "Resist part 2".

lyrics

A small child hiding behind
The premise of a loaded gun.
The triggers soft and limp
All the consequences are opaque
There goes the little guy again
embiggoned by his hard metal slug.

The Son of a barrel of the gun

A little kid on the sidewalk
walking with his parents to the mosque
A little kid carrying all that hate
using the AR-15 to do
what he thinks he must.

The Son of a barrel of the gun

A convenient store clerk
tending to his life
A weakned man, a jerk
divorced from his cheating wife.
A little boy with his anger on the outside
hellbent on using
his second amendment right

The Son of a barrel of the gun

Driving around all night
The clip in his lap.
His selfestemmed condensed
into a hardened mess
His soul slipping slowly to hell.
His humanity dying in his chest

Semi automatic
Semi automatic

The Son of a barrel of the gun

A father of a small girl
fighting for himself
But he knows his soul is lost.
His antipersonel assault weapon helps
when his heart and soul is locked
The muzzle tastes like metal
His hammer's hard and cocked

The Son of a barrel of the gun
